Welcome to
Campaign for Independent Living in Lewisham
Campaign for Independent Living in Lewisham (CILL) is a user led organization of disabled people. We work as a communication network promoting and supporting Independent Living for all disabled people of all impairments.
We believe that disabled people want to live in an inclusive society alongside non-disabled people and to enjoy the same rights as equal citizens. This means that equality and citizenship lie at the heart of our organisation so everything we do is underpinned by the Social Model of Disability. The belief that by removing barriers to our inclusion in society equality is possible.
For CILL knowledge and communication are key to achieving equality by challenging the barriers to our inclusion so providing knowledge and enabling communication lie at the heart of our services.
We provide information, advice and support to individuals, a monthly email newssheet, Disability Review, and an online forum - windowCILL. If you need information, advice or support we may be able to help so please Contact Us.
We also provide Consultation and Training to other organizations.
We use the term disabled people in its widest context to include people with physical, sensory and intellectual impairment, mental health users and survivors, older people who may have becom78uie frail due to age and carers.
Exact figures for the number of disabled people in Lewisham are difficult to obtain but it is suggested that it may be as many as 14% -15% of the population. That’s in the region of 34,000 people and there are also several thousand unpaid carers providing support. We may be a minority group but we believe we are a significant minority.
We believe that by working together disabled people in Lewisham can be a strong force to influence attitudes, opinions, policy and services.
